Joe’s Goals

Just ran across Joe’s Goals…It’s an online “habit tracker” that’s really cool. It allows you to add daily goals and then check them off once they’re completed. It even sends you an e-mail reminder if you forget to update your goal portfolio. Some things from my goal list:

  • Get enough sleep
  • Eat Healthy
  • Exercise
  • Do Devotion

Coke Explosion

Last night was the first “Office Party” at the Rippy home. It was quite fun. We started the parties three weeks early so that we could watch key episodes from the first three seasons…That way when season 4 starts at the end of the month, we’ll all be caught up.

Anyway, Kristin and I had tidied up the house and were just hanging out when suddenly I hear a loud crash from the kitchen. I look up to see an explosion of liquid gushing from the refrigerator, and down the hall into the guest room. As it turns out, Kristin opened the door to the refrigerator and a bottle of Coke fell out. The top broke and the bottle literally exploded all over the place. Why does that kind of thing always happens when the house is clean? It made a huge mess, but we just laughed as we cleaned it up…Kristin even took a moment to pose for a picture while standing in the Coke puddle.

Think Before…

Square

Buying giant wall decorations for your wife. Here’s the story…Kristin has loved these huge, multi-colored wall sconces from Kirkland’s for about seven months. BUT at $50.00 each, they were way out of our price range. So, I’m walking through the mall the other day and I see that they’re marked down AND they’re an additional 25% off. So, I get them for her. However, in my moment of excitement I forget that I hate hanging things. Some of you may remember the last time I hung decorations in our house shortly before our wedding. It nearly cost me my sanity. However, after a drill here and a drill there and a re-drill here and a re-drill thereI finally got them hung. All I can say is that when we move I am going to need a good lesson in spackling.

Tonight

Tonight was surreal to say the least. A friend of mine, Brian Hawks, died in his sleep this weekend. He was only 29 years old. Brian and I worked together at Cleveland School of Music and he also played keys with me for about a year at Lakeside Village. Tonight Victory Church held a memorial service for Brian, who was also the band director at McKeal Academy.

He was one of the most talented people I’ve ever met. He loved playing and teaching music more than anyone. These things are impossible to figure out. The only thing that I am 100% sure of is that Brian made a huge impact on a wide range of people.

Relaxing Weekend

Kristin and I had a really relaxing weekend in North Carolina. We spent a couple of days at my grandparents farm…We love it up there…My nephew,Taylor, was there as well. We got to take him to Atlanta to meet my brother. My mom surprised us and rode with my brother…It was great to have a family lunch…Now for the biggest story of our trip:

I was nearly killed by a swarm of angry hornets. Kristin has been begging for me to take her tubing for months. I told her that when we went to North Carolina we would go because there are some really good tubing places there. So, Sunday morning we load up and drive about an hour over to Tennesse to do a little tubing on the Hiawassee River. The water was freezing…AND the route was a lot longer (three hours) than we thought. So I’m relaxing in my tube when suddenly the current carries more toward the edge. Then I realize there’s a massive wasp’s nest and I’m heading right for it…So I try to paddle out of the way with my hands…Unseccessful. Next thing I know I nail the nest…Wasps bust out everywhere…Hundreds of them…Nay, thousands of them…I immediately flip myself into the water to evade the angry insects. Luckily, my crazy evasive technique worked…Not one sting.

You may be wondering why there are no pics from our recent journey. The answer is simple, but painful. I forgot my camera.
