Tonight, Kristin and I drank the getting-into-shape kool aid. We signed up for a membership at our local YMCA. Should make for quite the interesting adventure. Any gym membership nightmares or success stories out there?
oh how cool! I was actually just thinking about/considering joining the Y! Back home in Ohio I belonged to a gym and it was wonderful, I miss it!! Congrats on taking a step towards a healthy life style (wow that was cheesy! lol)
I know…Same here. No cancellation fee, and you can use ANY ‘Y’ location. There are three strategically located gyms in Sarasota. All available for me to punish with my strength.
I love the Y here… any given weekday afternoon when i visit i can find at least 3-4 of my friends there, including my pastor…
we’ve always been told it’s fun to stay there…

If there was a YMCA near me with racquetball courts, I would be a member for life! The desire to keep up cardio routines or strength training regimens will fade away, but the desire to have fun with friends in a semi-aerobic, cutthroat racquetball match will last forever.

I heart racquetball. We have it at ours.

Gym’s are GREAT! I don’t know about the Y, but I’m a member at Gold’s and there’s cool stuff happening all the time. I take a pilates class there that is kick-butt! It’s also helped me manage stress, and regulate my rest schedule. (as in, when I’m awake I have more energy, and when I sleep I get better rest).
All good reasons to get fit! Plus, more Americans die of fat-related health problems every year than any other cause.
Whoa, Beth, you’re chock full of health info! I’m a Gold’s member too! Though I haven’t gone in like 4 months =). I used to love my step aerobics class at the Y, but a membership there doesn’t mean you can go to any Y–trust me, we tried.

Beth has convinced me. I’m joining today! I was actually reading that the Y @ Bell Rd. is converting their pool to salt water. No more red, burning eyes for irresistibly opening my eyes under water.
I’ve tried and tried again… Gym… Jogging… Pushups and situps in my room… Nothing ever lasts… Musicians are not meant to workout…

If Palatka had a Y I would definately join! The Montgomery crowd convinced me with the racquetball/salt water pool and all!!!

We too have a Y membership. Tell Kristin to check out the classes. I found some good instructors and I really like body pump and kick boxing. Boot camp was torture but good for the body. I feel so much more sore when I go to a class than if I just work out on my own (that’s a good sign! :0)
[...] may remember that about two months ago Kristin and I joined the Y. I was on a steady exercise program until about two weeks ago when life caught up with me. [...]

The best thing about the Y…..you can cancel at anytime! No contract (at least not in Montgomery)
Trust me, I’ve been there and done that 3 times!
