Dave Matthews Band - Tampa

Last night Kristin and I went to the Dave Matthews Band show in Tampa. It was phenomenal. It was even more enjoyable than our last experience because we didn’t get soaked. I said it last time, but concerts always make me realize how much I love the common interests Kristin and I have.

#41 was amazing because Boyd Tinsley soloed for quite the extended period of time. Also, Jeff Coffin filled in for an injured LeRoi Moore. He was unbelievable. He totally owned “Grey Street” and “Two Step”. Tim Reynolds was also a nice addition. At times Tim’s presence made the feel of this show very different than the typical DMB style. It was good though. Some of the songs they really geared toward electric. Carter opened up the hi-hats and gave several tunes (including “Two Step”) a more rock feel.

Overall it was a ridiculous show. The visual displays were amazing as always and the band played great. Also, never a bad thing to hang out with Drew Allen.

Tim Reynolds definitely adds a new dimension. It is a little like what they sounded like with him a long time ago though. Listen to something like Live In Chicago, which has him. It’s similar. Still, they have definitely turned up the “rock” sound a notch this tour.

Overall, I love the sound this year, but sometimes the less precise, open hi-hat style you mention is not my favorite. I like his precision.

Oh well, they always tend to mix it up a little each tour. There’s a chance Butch will be back next year (rumor) and real possibility that Tim will not be, so their sound could be totally different again next year. Regardless, I’ll be in Atlanta when they make it back in 2009! :)

Nice! Thankfully, you didn’t have any new ‘news’ for me today. I’ve been feeling like your blog does more for me than CNN, FOX and MSNBC combined :) Love to Kristin.
