Colorado, Kristin, PooSaturday Kristin and I headed over to Palatka for the Green Family staycation…You may be wondering what a staycation is. It’s when everyone takes a vacation together but doesn’t really go anywhere. Anyway, it was nice because we have two new nephews (Kristin’s sister is adopting) that we got to meet for the first time. I would like for you to note the striking resemblance between Kayden and Kiefer Sutherland.
Kayden also enjoys breaking protocol…Just like Jack Bauer. Anyway, the little look-alike wasn’t the only entertainment for the weekend. We also had the Blue Monster and the Aqua Tunnel. Two giant inflatable water slides.
We also played a rousing round of “Family Feud”. My team lost but I’m almost positive it was rigged. Highlight of the trip for me was when I pulled my mother in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, cousin-in-law, and wife in the pool. A wave of strength came over me and I simply couldn’t be stopped. Not even by the impenetrable wall of a human being that is our cousin Lenon. The staycation was a huge success. And as you can see…Kristin and I finally got another camera which means good things for the blog.

The fam and I enjoyed the outlets and some Carrabba’s for my birthday. We also swung by Siesta to give Andrew his first beach experience.
Aging, Birthday, Carrabbas, OutletsSometimes you never know who your blog is reaching, but today I realized what an impact it was making right here in my own family. As many of you know, my Nana recently gave Kristin and I a car. We felt as though this gift could never be out-given, but apparently we underestimated the generosity of Arthelene Rippy. Today we received a package that contained the greatest gift we have received for quite sometime. It was a pre-release for Alive: Music & Dance the new John Tesh CD/DVD combo. This musical adventure includes some of Tesh’s greatest hits with hip-hop dancing and a Tesh-tastic stage performance.
Nana, I truly don’t know where your generosity ends. I would also like to let all of my readers know that I am considering honoring Nana with a special installment of Sacred vs. Secular entitled, “Arthelene Rippy vs. Martha Stewart”.
Arthelene Rippy, John Tesh, MusicMy family was in town this weekend for a friend’s wedding. My mom, grandparents, sister and 8 week old nephew, Andrew all stayed with us at the Rippyplex (that’s what Kristin and I call our Duplex). We were so excited to find out Ashley and Andrew were coming…Through a breakdown in communication, we didn’t find out they were coming until about an hour before they arrived. It was quite the great surprise.
No TagsThis has been quite the exciting day. To recap, my sister announced that she was pregnant on Christmas Eve. Her and her husband, Bobby, had been keeping the news a secret since Thanksgiving. They also decided to keep the baby’s sex and name a secret..Even they did not find out that it was boy until today! All of this added to the excitement and anticipation of the baby’s birth. My mom just sent me some more pictures of the baby. Here’s a picture of Ashley and I talking on the phone. Apparently in the midst of labor Ashley asked Bobby to get me on the phone so that I could talk her through everything…Or maybe this is from when I called her about two hours before the birth…I can’t remember, it’s been a long day for me.
And here’s a picture of Ashley and Bobby with the baby.
And finally, here’s a picture of Andrew looking into what he probably assumes is the face of his grandmother, but it’s actually a camera lens.
No TagsHere’s a new photo Zack sent me from his cell phone. Also, I just found out that Andrew weighs 6 lbs. 10 oz. and is 20 in. long.

On Thursday, June 14, my great-grandfather passed away. Raymond Ephrem Rippy was born in Charletson in 1911 and was 96 years old. The last time I saw him in person was three years ago when he spent father’s day with my family in Montgomery, Alabama.
Last summer I was privileged to introduce him to my wife (then fiance), Kristin, through an online web cam. He kept returning to a single question…“How’d you get you such a pretty girl?” PaPa always said that he would live to be 100 years old so that Willard Scott would announce his name on the Today Show. Although he didn’t quite make it to 100, PaPa did make it to the Today Show. On easter Sunday, just two months before he passed away the NBC morning show featured PaPa and his daughter Kai in a special about long distance care-givers.
I am so glad that Kristin and I were able to attend the funeral. His funeral truly felt like a celebration of a life well lived. He was remembered by his friends and family as a man of faith, integrity, patience, and love.
