The Bitter Blue Compilation is a great 5-Disc set of rare DMB, Dave & Tim and Dave Solo songs. It is comprised of both AUD and SBD recordings.
I have seen this floating around many times online, but always in lossy MP3 form.
I have hunted for a true lossless source, but everytime I’ve gotten what was supposed to be lossless, they have been, in fact, transcoded files (or at least some of the files were).
So, I have recompiled the set myself, using all lossless sources, with two exceptions:
It’s All Gravy on Disc 1 and Get Me High on Disc 2. These are the only two files that I could not find lossless.
Believe me, I’ve tried. I’ve bothered everyone I know! I’ll keep looking.
If I find them, I’ll update the compilation. So, THEY ARE MP3 here. It was either that or don’t include them and I did not want to do that.
The entire compilation is FLAC, except those two files.
Additionally, I’ve tracked down and documented the exact versions of the songs as well.
For example, “Wild Horses” was listed as being from “early ’99” in the notes from the original compilation.
I listened to every performance of Wild Horses and found that the version used was from 3.7.99.
I take no credit for the original compilation. I have no idea who put it together, but they did a great job.
I just wanted a version with the best sound quality and audio fidelity possible, so this was the result.
Thanks to the folks who helped me track down a few of the tracks (and provided them in some cases).
Finally, as some of you might know, right now, my web provider is having problems with large zip files, so I uploaded the individual tracks.
I know it’s a pain for some people to download the original tracks, but there’s nothing I can do about it at the moment.
If you use Firefox, grab the DownloadHelper plugin or something like that.
OK, so here it is:
The Bitter Blue Compilation: Lossless Recompile
Enjoy.
EDIT: I have no idea where the artwork came from. It came with an mp3 version of the compilation I got from someone.
If anyone wants to make a great cover for this compilation, by all means, have at it!!
This is the Bitter Blue Compilation. I have seen it all over the web in various forms – mostly MP3.
I’ve tried obtaining a truly lossless version, but have not been successful, so I decided to re-create it myself.
This version of this great compilation is comprised of completely lossless files with TWO exceptions – “It’s All Gravy” from Disc 1 and “Get Me High” from Disc 2.
They are MP3 files. Sorry about that, but for now, that is all I can find. I will continue looking those and if I find lossless copies, I will update this accordingly.I take no credit whatsoever for compiling this. I don’t know who compiled it originally, but they did a great job putting together an excellent list of rare songs.
I can’t make any restrictions on distributing this myself really, since none of these files were taped by me, but I will say this,
PLEASE RESPECT THE WISHES OF TAPERS AND DO NOT CONVERT TO MP3 OTHER THAN FOR PERSONAL USE (obviously the two files I mentioned above are the exception).
Enjoy this terrific compilation.

Thank you for setting this up, it’s really awesome that you’re doing this. Just had a quick few questions (I’ll post more if I find them).
For Watermelon Song (Disc 2, Track 6), is the date supposed to be 06.11.1996? Watermelon Song was only played in 1996-1997 except for one performance in 2003.
For Hey Joe (Disc 2, Track 7), I think you posted Amazing Grace from that same night (08.21.1991).

I think I found the same error with Is Chicago, Is Not Chicago (Disc 2, Track 10). Date says 06.11.1999, but the track matches up to 06.11.1996.

Also, the song on Disc 4, Track 9 is Get In Line, not “Get In Like” lol

For clarification, the Don’t Burn The Pig (Disc 4, Track 11) on this compilation is from Yoshi’s, not from the Warfield Theatre on the same day.
